Find Out What Services Are Available this Children's Mental Health Week!
May 2 to 8, 2022 is Children's Mental Health Week! This year’s theme encourages people to #GetReal about how to get help.
Engaging in conversations with children and teens about mental health and available services is especially important as they undergo tremendous changes, both emotional and physical.
Here are some tips from Valoris for Children and Adults of Prescott-Russell on how you can help youth maintain a good mental health.
Help children build healthy relationships. Spending time with people who appreciate and want the best for them can help youth maintain a good mental health. Relationships should feel safe, reassuring, and positive. Demonstrate through modelling that having good relationships is important for their wellbeing.
Encourage them to adopt a healthy routine and good habits. Having a routine helps young people know what to expect in their day, which can be helpful in maintaining a good mental health. Focus on healthy habits such as eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising on a regular basis. It’s also very important for them to do things they love. Help them discover new hobbies and interests to integrate into their routine!
Create a safe place where children can express themselves. Sometimes, all children need is a trustworthy person to listen to them and respect their feelings. Having an open mind and an accessible line of communication with those they trust can help youth navigate their emotions and help them better understand themselves.
