Mental Health Week - Because Compassion Connects Us All
May 6 to 12, 2024 is Mental Health Week! This year's theme encourages people to show kindness, because often, all someone needs at a difficult time is someone to show compassion.
Life sometimes presents us with trials, hence the importance of compassion and kindness - two things that have tangible effects.
In addition to showing compassion, it is important to engage in conversations with those around us about mental health. Whether it's with a child, a young person, a friend or a neighbour, we need to talk about the different ways of getting help and the services available, because we can all experience changing situations in our lives that require us to seek support.
Valoris offers various mental health services to support children, youth, and their families, including assessment services, individual, family or group interventions, and evidence-based programs such as Triple P, Go Zen and Girls on the Run. For more information, please call 1 800 675.6168 or visit our Events & Groups page.
Do you know of other organizations offering mental health support that you can turn to?
Valoris collaborates with other organizations offering mental health services for children, youth, adults and families. We invite you to discover some of our partners who are here to help you and your loved ones:
One Stop Talk: Their free, confidential service allows young people 17 and under to receive brief mental health services by phone or electronically anywhere in Ontario.
Counselling Connect: Counselling Connect is free to everyone: children, youth, adults and families in Ottawa and the surrounding area. They provide free phone, in-person and video counselling as well as support groups.
1Call1Click: This bilingual service is here to help children, youth and families/caregivers connect with the right mental health, addictions, substance use health and neurodevelopmental health services and care when they need it.
AccessMHA: This resource makes it easier to help find mental health, or substance use health and addictions support, services, and care. We eliminate the guesswork and work with you to refer you to the services you need, all while supporting you through the process.
Rockland and Prescott-Russell Youth Wellness Hub: The Rockland and Prescott-Russell youth wellness hub offers youth access to mental health and substance abuse services, primary health care, peer support, education and employment services, as well as additional resources to help build skills and promote the well-being of youth, families and other supporters.
We invite you to check out their resources. It is by knowing about such resources that we can help people we know in our area. Let's cultivate compassion and care for one another this week and every day. Have a great week!
